Las Vegas Star Style
Forbes Travel Guide
It’s the start of a whole new beginning in Las Vegas. Modern new hotels have opened, top chefs have transformed the dining scene, and the city has become one of the great spa destinations. So what are you waiting for?
There are more places to stay and play in style than ever in Las Vegas. The new ARIA Resort & Casino within CityCenter is a glistening, contemporary hotel with luxurious accommodations and wonderful restaurants.
Encore at Wynn Las Vegas isn’t a mere addition but a full-scale resort complete with new restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Properties such as MGM Grand have also greatly expanded in recent years. MGM Grand Hotel and Casino has two hotels within its resort, SKYLOFTS and The Signature, as well as numerous world-class restaurants and a variety of entertainment attractions.
And then there’s the softer new side of Las Vegas. Note to all those looking for a quiet escape: You might find exactly what you’re looking for right here. Hotels such as Trump International Hotel Las Vegas are non-gaming and close enough to everything so that you can dabble in the action when you feel like it, and then escape back to your peaceful room when you’ve had enough.
In the new Las Vegas, it’s all about options.
Bartolotta at Wynn Las Vegas
With so many great places to stay, the hardest part is deciding where to visit first. You never have to leave the property if you’re checking into the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. The resort is a world unto itself in the heart of Las Vegas, with an impressive roster of restaurants from the country’s top chefs, exclusive sports and entertainment events, and a variety of accommodations from which to take it all in.
The premier property on site—a modern hotel-within-a-hotel—is the Forbes Five Star SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand. These 51 two-story lofts on the top two floors of MGM Grand are the height of luxury. Rooms have 500-thread-count sheets, a pillow menu with no less than 14 options, Bang & Olufsen surround-sound systems and enormous bathrooms with deep soaking infinity tubs, massive steam showers and Bulgari products. The amenities are extravagant, too: 24-hour butler service, espresso machines, room service from any of MGM’s restaurants, free on-demand movies, and transportation to and from the airport in a Maybach.
DJT at Trump International Hotel Las Vegas
If you’re traveling with your family, or just looking for spacious accommodations within a non-smoking environment, there’s also The Signature at MGM Grand, a quiet enclave of three towers surrounded by private gates. The Forbes Four Star all-suite hotel offers large suites with high-end kitchens and comfortable living areas. The hotel is connected to MGM Grand via an indoor walkway and has its own fitness center, Starbucks and café for breakfast and lunch.
Another non-gaming option is the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas. Located just off the Strip and adjacent to the Fashion Show mall, the elegant suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the city, custom-designed furnishings, luxe marble bathrooms and custom-stocked refrigerators.
ARIA’s Bar Masa
Last year’s addition of Encore at Wynn illustrates how that property just keeps getting better. Encore Las Vegas, a Forbes Four Star hotel, delivers the same exceptional service, dining and amenities as Wynn Las Vegas. For the ultimate experience, check into Tower Suites at Wynn or Tower Suites at Encore, both Forbes Five Star hotels that will impress even the most seasoned travelers. Both properties have private entrances, gorgeous suites and private pools.
One of Las Vegas’ newest hotels, ARIA Resort and Casino, is an urban oasis made up of contemporary glass towers where natural light pours in through the large windows. Rooms are sleek and streamlined and loaded with up-to-the-minute electronics—press a touch screen to dim the lights, adjust the temperature in the room, schedule a wake-up call or pop on some music. Right outside your room you’ll find Crystals, a 50,000-square-foot shopper’s dream come true with an all-star lineup of shops and restaurants.
SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand terrace
Luxury, impeccable service and preferential access to MGM Grand dining and entertainment are all available to guests staying at the Forbes Five Star SKYLOFTS and Forbes Four Star suites of The Signature. Its junior, one- and two-bedroom suites range from 550 to 1,500 square feet, and feature pillow-top beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, marble and granite bathrooms with Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs, LCD flat-screen HDTV and high-speed wireless Internet access. Most suites include private balconies. Like SKYLOFTS, The Signature offers guests gourmet in-room dining and preferred seating at MGM Grand’s world-class restaurants and shows.
Joël Robuchon
With an array of fine restaurants rivaling those of major cities, MGM Grand makes it possible to savor cuisines of the world without ever hailing a cab. Among the tempting choices is the Forbes Five Star Joël Robuchon, the legendary chef’s first U.S. venture, featuring traditional French cuisine with à la carte and 6- and 16-course tasting menus. Craftsteak’s menu is created by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio. NOBHILL TAVERN features Michael Mina’s interpretation of modern American tavern fare. At Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, the famous chef offers a unique interpretation of California cuisine. Popular chef Emeril Lagasse serves a fresh and distinctive blend of Creole/Cajun specialties at Emeril Lagasse’s New Orleans Fish House.
Entertainment at MGM Grand satisfies any interest. Looking for action, gaming, adventure or a combination of these? KÀ by Cirque du Soleil is a gravity-defying production that blends acrobatic feats, dance, puppetry, projections and martial arts. MGM Grand Garden Arena, Hollywood Theatre, the pulsing nightlife of Studio 54 and Tabú Ultra Lounge and the decadent poolside daylife of WET REPUBLIC provide a whirl of activity options.
MGM Grand earns its star ratings with star treatment for its guests and a constellation of luxuries—a winning combination for the perfect Las Vegas experience.
Craftsteak
Heavy-hitting chefs have arrived on the Strip in recent years, including Joël Robuchon, Alessandro Stratta, Daniel Boulud and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. No other destination boasts more celebrated chefs in one area.
Joël Robuchon’s eponymous restaurant at MGM Grand is the very definition of fine dining. Plush velvet banquettes, crystal chandeliers and an “outdoor” patio make a stunning backdrop for the sophisticated fare. Dishes such as truffle langoustine ravioli with cabbage and pan-fried sea bass with stewed baby leeks and lemongrass foam are exceptional. For a more casual, though no less delicious evening, MGM Grand offers hit restaurants such as Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak and NOBHILL TAVERN by Michael Mina. Even quick bites pack a punch at Tom Colicchio’s ’wichcraft, where the fried egg, bacon, gorgonzola and frisée sandwich will have you thinking twice about skipping breakfast.
Joël Robuchon
With the opening of CityCenter and ARIA comes a flood of new restaurants and culinary talents to enjoy. Chef Masayoshi Takayama debuts in Las Vegas with Bar Masa. The food, like the atmosphere, is sleek, simple and exceedingly fresh. Jean-Georges Steakhouse is the newest—and chicest—steakhouse in town. The chef incorporates prime cuts of aged beef, fresh-daily seafood and creative sides that will more than satisfy your taste for steakhouse fare. New to the scene is acclaimed Chicago chef Shawn McClain, who recently opened Sage at ARIA. The menu is contemporary American with global influences.
At Trump International Hotel Las Vegas, less is more when it comes to dining. DJT offers a menu of American favorites, comprising upscale ingredients and beautiful preparations. Privacy is paramount as tables are spaciously arranged, and an opulent private dining room is available. If a drink and a bite is all you’re after, the lobby lounge hosts live entertainment on weekends.
Private dining room at Alex
Stratta. Boulud. Bartolotta. Chen. The fleet of fine chefs at Wynn Las Vegas is impressive. Alex, Wynn’s pinnacle Forbes Five Star restaurant, is inviting, with warm chocolate tones and a personable waitstaff. One bite of star chef Alessandro Stratta’s Wagyu strip loin with wild mushrooms in a Bordelaise sauce and you’ll see why this restaurant earns top honors. Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare is a great choice for al fresco dining in private cabanas surrounding the lagoon. The handmade pasta is light and pillowy, and seafood dishes are impossibly fresh. Wing Lei is a study in classic Chinese cuisine, blending Cantonese, Shanghai and Szechwan styles of cooking under the masterful direction of chef Richard Chen. Try the five-course Peking duck menu, which begins with perfectly prepared classic roast duck and ends with a sinful chocolate dome dessert.

Salt Room, The Spa at ARIA
In recent years, spa culture has become nearly as integral to the Las Vegas experience as gambling itself. If you’ve been dreaming of a spa day, there’s no better time to book one than while visiting Las Vegas, home to some of the top spas in the country. Relax in front of the “ice” fireplace at The Spa at Wynn Las Vegas before and after your treatment. At The Spa at Encore Las Vegas, the mood is set the moment you arrive through the entryway lit by ornate gold lanterns. The delightful spa has a full menu of treatments and you won’t want to skip a workout. The high-tech fitness center has a fresh juice bar that you can enjoy afterwards.
At The Spa at Trump, a spa attaché is at your beck and call to help you make the most of your time within the spa. Signature massage treatments using gem-infused oils are as luxurious as they sound, while facials feature Kate Somerville products. The pool and spa level overlooks the city, and full-service cabanas ring the pool for a full day of relaxation.
The Spa at Trump
Like the hotel itself, The Spa at ARIA is airy and modern with water gardens, a fire lounge and meditation rooms. The salt room is a breath of fresh air—literally—and the heated-stone ganbanyoku beds are incredibly relaxing. The spa also features three private suites where you can have a variety of luxurious treatments, as well as a salon and group exercise classes.
Showtime
As the number of billboards around town suggest, there are more performances in Las Vegas than you could ever see in a single visit. Le Rêve at Wynn Las Vegas is a fantastical production of water, acrobatics and dramatic flair. The dreamworld journey (“le rêve” is French for the dream) has dozens of actors swimming, diving, twirling, dancing and performing incredible feats of strength in a specially designed aquatic theater. The Cirque du Soleil show KÀ at MGM Grand is an elaborate production involving acrobatics, martial arts, puppetry, pyrotechnics and a scene that redefines the concept of “quicksand.” The newest Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show, Viva Elvis at ARIA, is a highly entertaining tribute to the life and music of Elvis Presley.
XS at Encore Las Vegas
This being Las Vegas, you will also find premier entertainment and sporting events that you won’t find anywhere else. MGM Grand has a long history of hosting top entertainers and exclusive events. Wynn also hosts musical superstars, including Garth Brooks, who recently came out of retirement to play exclusive concerts at the intimate 1,500-seat Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.
The evening doesn’t have to end there. There’s no shortage of nightlife in Las Vegas. Clubs such as Studio 54, Tryst and Haze keep guests dancing all night. Studio 54 is a modern take on the original New York nightclub, with famous DJs and frenetic video displays. For outdoor ambience, take a table on the patio overlooking an illuminated 90-foot waterfall at Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas. Or check out the newest nightclub on the Strip, Haze, located in the heart of CityCenter within ARIA. Interactive projection screens, a 20-foot-tall light wall and full-color laser shows create a dynamic atmosphere. At MGM Grand, Tabú Ultra Lounge is a chic, cosmopolitan lounge with high-tech light projections that react to a person’s touch. The hardest decision you have to make at XS at Encore is whether to sit inside the sophisticated nightclub where chandeliers and table lamps set the rich gold and bronze décor aglow, or outdoor by the pool in one of the luxurious cabanas. In the new Vegas, it’s all about whatever appeals to you.
