Megayacht Market Favors Owners
by Georgia R. Byrd
Baton Rouge is one of the largest-volume superyachts afloat.
It’s a buyer’s market for new yachts as Burgess and Trinity offer expertise and shortened production turnaround.
Burgess: A Full-Service Leader
There is perhaps no better way to illustrate the talents and expertise of a company than to report on the successes of its missions accomplished. For Burgess, a name distinguished worldwide for exceptional and diverse superyacht services to clients, the evidence of achievements amid a challenging economic climate continues to astound.
Since the sale of the iconic Maltese Falcon in 2009, the company has reported a 60% increase in sales activity through the spring and summer. More recently, accolades have come to its Technical Consultancy Services Division, the professionals who orchestrate every detail of new yacht construction. They are celebrating the recent deliveries of two magnificent yachts—Sunrays (86 meters) and Baton Rouge (62 meters).
“Sales activity of pre-owned yachts is fueled by a rising number of buyers keen to take advantage of competitive opportunities created by the new economic environment,” says Rupert Nelson, sales director for Burgess in Monaco. “The new-build sector is also gradually seeing the green shoots of recovery; but the post-recession marketplace has a very different dynamic. This is where the commercial and technical skills of the Burgess team can pay dividends in identifying the most interesting new-build options. Clients are more value driven than before.”
Serving as a liaison between the yacht owner and builder throughout the build process, the team orchestrates every detail of new yacht construction, including the vessel’s pre-contract design process, the tender process, and the technical and build specifications.
As the delivery day approaches, the team handles all the closing details to allow a newly constructed yacht to transition smoothly to her new owner. In many cases, Burgess is awarded full operational and charter management.
Other recent successful deliveries include: Al Mirqab (133 meters), Slipstream (60 meters), Cloud 9 (60 meters) and Sequel P (54 meters).
With ten global offices, the Burgess team stands by to assist in the sale and purchase, new construction, charter and operational management of the world’s most luxurious superyachts. For more information, contact +44 20 7766 4300 or visit www.burgessyachts.com.
Trinity Offers Two Mid-Production Yachts
Trinity’s Hull 52 can be completely customized.
Trinity Yachts, the U.S. shipyard distinguished for producing luxurious custom superyachts of 100-plus meters, offers two yachts in mid-production for quick sale: Hull 52 and Hull 56. Both vessels were abandoned by their owners in mid-production as a result of the financial crisis.
According to John Dane III, Trinity’s president and chief executive officer, the current economic climate favors the prospective yacht owner, and these two projects provide excellent opportunities for new-construction ownership without the wait.
“These yachts, if purchased today, can be customized and delivered in 16 to 18 months, as opposed to two to three years,” explains William S. Smith III, Trinity’s vice president. “A new owner can come in, bring in his own designer if he desires, and completely customize these yachts.”
Trinity has long-standing relationships with clients who return to the shipyard to build bigger yachts. Dane attributes the high number of return clientele to Trinity’s reputation for building yachts that hold their resale value and are popular in the charter market.
Both mid-production yachts boast attractive features, and all interiors are open for customization.
Hull 52 is a 51.2-meter tri-deck aluminum motoryacht that boasts sleek, contemporary design inside and out.
Her original plans call for five staterooms, quarters for a crew of ten, an expansive sky lounge and a fly bridge. There is a full-beam master suite located forward on the main deck, offering panoramic forward viewing. Hull 52 is powered by two Caterpillar engines producing a top speed of 19 knots, and she is American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classed.
Trinity’s Hull 56, designed by Luiz de Basto, awaits ownership.
Hull 56 is another standout. This 50.9-meter tri-deck aluminum motoryacht reflects interior and exterior design by the internationally acclaimed, Miami-based Luiz de Basto. She has MTU engines and can achieve a speed of 23.5 knots.
“We successfully integrated the complex makings of a yacht into one clean design,” says de Basto of Hull 56. “This is a classic Europeanstyled yacht that renders a very dynamic profile. There appears to be one sweeping look that creates an elongated and elegant view.”
Trinity’s three veteran yachtsmen— John Dane III, William S. Smith III, and Felix Sabates Jr., chairman of the board—invite inquiries.
