Paul Guerra founded Brookshire Wealth Management in May 2002, but the company really had its beginnings long before that.
This independent wealth management company, associated with the Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, actually began as a dissent against attitudes and methods Guerra saw while working for other companies. He wanted to build a practice where the focus was fully on serving clients, with the utmost respect for them and their goals and dreams, and the utmost understanding of every financial strategy he recommended.
Today, the mission of Brookshire Wealth Management is to provide strategies that play to the best interest of the client versus the advisor. Working in that serve-the-advisor-first environment fueled Guerra’s frustration, and when it reached a peak in 2002, he decided to open his own practice. “I’ve always had a very strong belief that you need to be able to provide independent advice and counseling to people and not be encumbered by the corporate influences present at most traditional investment firms,” he says.
Guerra, a West Point graduate and former Green Beret, brings a methodical, overall wealth-management approach to his work. He establishes and stays with a strategy, making only tactical shifts as needed. The objective, as Brookshire’s mission statement says, is to capture opportunity while managing risk. “We’re not investing for the end of the week. We’re investing for the next five or 10 years,” says Guerra. “I take a lot of time and pride in the fact that I don’t get clients involved in anything until I research it and understand it myself.”
Guerra emphasizes that his is a wealth management practice, ready to provide his high-net-worth clients with guidance in every area of financial life, including asset management, estate investment planning, tax-efficient strategies, education funding and retirement planning. Also, Brookshire has trusted alliances with legal and tax professionals, and can provide introductions and perform as the center point for this team relationship.
Brookshire is a growing practice, poised for expansion. Its services are almost entirely fee-based, not commission-driven. “In the industry, the vast majority of people are compensated based upon the investments that they’re recommending, not on an annual fee based upon total client assets held,” Guerra says. “Our emphasis is knowing our client. We know the importance of financial stability in people’s lives. Off-the-shelf service has no place here. We know our clients, we know their families, we know their financial situations, and their needs, wants and desires. We customize our service plan for each situation as needed.”
Brookshire is a provider of wealth management services, with a high-touch way of working for people. “We feel that we are different because we actually get involved, and understand, research and pay attention,” Guerra says. “And we care. We care about our clients.”
